WA4 4" Baseboard Maple

Woodland

WA4 4" Baseboard Maple is a solid maple baseboard, unfinished -- ready for your choice of paint, stain, or clear finish. Baseboard runs along the base of interior walls, concealing the expansion gap between the flooring and drywall while protecting the lower wall from scuffs, furniture, and cleaning equipment. Available at Windsor Plywood locations across Canada.

Features

  • Solid Maple -- dense, hard, and fine-grained with a smooth, consistent surface
  • The hardest domestic moulding wood -- resists dents and wear better than pine, hemlock, or MDF
  • Standard profile at 4" -- Interior -- wall and floor transition
  • Available at Windsor Plywood locations across Canada -- confirm stock at your local branch

Common Uses

Installed at the base of all interior walls. Nail into wall studs with 2" finish nails at 16" stud spacing. Maple is the premium choice for clear-finished and natural-look moulding. It blotches with penetrating stain -- use gel stain or dye for even colour.

Pro Tips

  • Cut inside corners with a cope joint rather than a mitre for a tighter, longer-lasting fit. Coped joints stay closed as wood moves seasonally -- mitred inside corners tend to open up.
  • For clear finish: sand to 220-grit and apply water-based polyurethane to maintain the pale colour. For stain: use gel stain or dye -- maple blotches with penetrating liquid stain. For paint: prime and paint directly.
  • Use a stud finder before nailing. Set all nails below the surface, fill with paintable wood filler, and sand smooth before finishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What height baseboard should I use?
Baseboard height should be proportional to ceiling height. 3" to 3-1/2" for 8 ft ceilings, 4" to 5" for 9 ft, and 5" or taller for 10 ft and above. Taller baseboard creates a more formal appearance.

Does maple accept stain evenly?
Not with penetrating liquid stain -- maple blotches due to varying density. Use a gel stain or dye for controlled, even colour. For the cleanest result, apply a clear finish and let the natural pale colour speak for itself.
